Chaiya Sherman
Dr. Chaiya Sherman, DAOM, L.Ac. has been practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine since graduating from Bastyr University in 2016. Her journey with traditional medicine began in 1995 through Ayurveda, yoga, and qigong. Originally pursuing a path in midwifery, Chaiya spent many years as a massage therapist and doula before realizing that life on-call wasn’t the right fit. That experience, however, laid the foundation for her work in acupuncture and herbal medicine—a field where she found the perfect blend of her skills, passions, and clinical curiosity.
Chaiya specializes in pain management (from migraines to complex injuries), women’s health, and mental health. She has experience supporting patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobility, MCAS, POTS, secondary infertility, and those navigating psychedelic medicine integration. She’s known for her deep dives into anatomy, classical texts, and modern research to uncover thoughtful, individualized treatments.
Chaiya completed a two-year internship with the Acute Pain Service team at Harborview Medical Center, treating trauma, post-surgical pain, hospice, and palliative care patients with in-hospital acupuncture. In 2019, she earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) with a focus in Pain Management from Bastyr University.
In addition to clinical work, Chaiya teaches at Bastyr and serves as President of the Washington Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Association (WAEMA), where she advocates for the profession at both state and national levels.
